Reaffirmation

Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Reaffirmation

NC Bankruptcy Lawyer in Charlotte North Carolina for Chapter 7 / Chapter 13

Reaffirmation Agreements are filed which renew your legal obligation to pay a debt.  You are not required to sign a reaffirmation, however in some areas you may need to sign to keep certain property.

In many areas you can keep a house without reaffirmation.

In some areas you can keep a car without reaffirmation.
In other areas, if you don't reaffirm the loan the car can be taken from you.

Many people who file (pro se) or without a lawyer don't know if they do, or don't, have to sign a reaffirmation, and they may reaffirm something they should not, or miss filing a reaffirmation that they should file.

Talk to your lawyer to see if they recommend reffirmations or if they know of a better way to protect yourself.
